Academic choir

The ?Ivan Goran Kova?i?? Academic Choir was founded in 1948. The Choir was managed by distinguished Croatian musicians, such as: Mladen Jagu?t, Du?ko Pra?elj, Lovro ?upanovi?, Adalbert Markovi?, Dinko Fio, Vladimir Kranj?evi? and Sa?a Britvi?. In early 2003, Luka Vuk?i? took charge of the Choir.

The Choir has performed under the direction of Lovro Mata?i?, Milan Horvat, Pavao De?palj, Nik?a Bareza, Vjekoslav ?utej, Ivo Lipanovi?, Zubin Mehta, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Marko Letonja, Lorin Maazel, Uro? Lajovic, Gerd Albrecht, Kazushi Ono, Alun Francis, Patrick Fournillier, Hans Graf, Kurt Masur, Pinchas Steinberg, Gustav Kuhn, Dimitrije Kitaenko, Nicola Luisotti, Yakov Kreizberg and others.

The Choir has achieved a great number of guest performances abroad: USA, Mexico, China, Korea, Great Britain, Portugal, France, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.

It has performed on well-known festivals, such as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Vienna Festive Weeks, Settembre musica in Torino, Flaneries musicales in Reims, 21st Festival of French music in La Chaise Dieu, Festival in Ljubljana, the Varazdin Baroque Nights, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Pula Summer, Slovakia Cantat, along with respectable orchestra such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow National Philharmonic Orchestra, the City Theatre Orchestra in Florence, the National Opera Orchestra in Monte Carlo, the Litvanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Bari Symphony Orchestra, the German Music Youth Orchestra, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra. The Choir constantly cooperates with Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian radio-and-television Symphony Orchestra, as well as Croatian Army Symphony Wind Orchestra.

High interpretative achievements of the ?Ivan Goran Kova?i?? Academic Choir have been confirmed by numerous awards and plaudits among which the Vice-chancellor Award of the University of Zagreb, the City of Zagreb Award, as well as the ?Vladimir Nazor? Award should be specially emphasized.
